And so it begins!

We left Campus Center today around 12:30 with a fully packed car. When I say fully packed, I mean fully packed. You couldn't see out of the entire back of the van. Almost the entire floor of the van was covered in backpacks, linens (which, turns out, we didn't need but we're glad we have), and a cooler. I was sitting in the front passenger seat and had a backpack under my feet and a sleeping bag (whose? I have no idea) under my feet. For some reason that van just makes me sleepy. We all lost with our struggle to stay awake for the long 3 hour drive (compared to the 18 hour drive other trips had). So I fell in and out of sleep for the majority of the ride until we stopped at McDonalds about 20 minutes from our destination for restrooms and snacks.

After some confusing directions and driving by the Olean Hospital (one of us thought it said 'Clean Hospital' the first time we passed) three times we finally arrived at St. Bonaventure University, home for the next week. We're staying in Francis Hall, the equivalent of Boothroyd at Ithaca. A girl we ran into on-campus later in the day said "Oh your probably staying at Francis right? Isn't it like the shining out there?" All in all it isn't too bad. We're staying on the fourth floor of the building. For some reason they only allowed students to live on the second and third floor of the building this year. Apparently there are a few grad students and professors temporarily living on the floor with us, but they have yet to appear so I've decided they're all ghosts. We all have singles right next to each other. My door and wall are painted the same color yellow. Well anyways, we got here and the bed's were all made up for us and we had a towel and washcloth. The sheets didn't look all that comfortable so I remade the bed with my own sheets and blanket. The rooms have these old wooden desks and dressers that clearly weren't made by today's dorm outfitting companies and a closet and a sink. I wish the terraces had sinks in every room.

After we got settled in we decided to take a walk around campus. As we were walking there were two guys outside who stopped us to ask if we knew where they could find bud. C'mon people, were on alternative spring break and not from here. We proceeded to tell the two guys "No, sorry we're not from here" (but we are from Ithaca...) they then proceeded to tell us how they didn't go to St. Bonaventure either but they were throwing a party at their friends place in Leo, "that building over there, first staircase, first door on the left." Their friends weren't in St Bonaventure either, they went to Atlantic City to watch the basketball team compete in the NCAA's. They were winners. We stopped at the cafe called La Varna- or something like that. Devon quickly made friends and got directions to a few places we wanted to go. Campus was relatively empty and quiet so it was a little weird. When we got back from exploring we decided we were all hungry and wanted Mexican food.

Don Luchos (best quesadilla fajitas)

For dinner we hopped in the van and drove a few miles over to Don Luchos in Allegany for some awesome food and conversation. During dinner we got to talking about a lot of different things, from movies to books and family.

I think really highly of the people in my group, so I'll introduce them all to you! Niki is a junior music major from Pittsburgh. Lianna is a sophomore psychology major from Long Island (wooooo!). Kelly is a sophomore chemistry major and an international student I believe. Olivia is the other freshman on the trip, an OT major from Conneticut. The sole male on the trip is Devon. He's a senior history major with a pre-med concentration thingy from St. Lucia.

We came back and went over to The Skeller, an on campus bar thing, around 8 to play some pool. We were the only ones in there but apparently they were throwing a big Mardi Gras themed party starting at ten. Next weekend there's going to be all sorts of St. Patty's Day festivities, bound to be a bunch of drunk leprechauns running around.. it's going to be great to watch.

Devon likes to pose...?

I'm off to bed... or to watch a few episodes of Party Down.
